Before you start
Install the official ChatGPT app published by OpenAI and update it to the latest version available in your App Store. Sign in to the ChatGPT account that should receive the subscription; the Apple Account pays for the purchase, but the ChatGPT account receives the plan benefits.
- Confirm the App Store country or region and supported payment method.
- Check that the intended ChatGPT account is signed in.
- Review the current local App Store price before approving payment.
- Do not rely on an old tutorial screenshot because button names can change.
Purchase ChatGPT Plus inside the app
Open ChatGPT and look for the upgrade option in the account, settings or plan area. Select the available paid plan and let iOS open the Apple purchase sheet. The sheet should show the product, billing period, local price and Apple Account used for payment.
Read the renewal terms, then approve the purchase with Face ID, Touch ID or the Apple Account password. Do not close the app while Apple is still processing the transaction.
Confirm that the plan is active
Return to the ChatGPT account or plan screen and confirm that the paid plan appears. You can also open iPhone Settings, tap your name and open Subscriptions to check whether ChatGPT is listed with the expected renewal date.
If Apple shows a completed purchase but ChatGPT remains on the free plan, make sure you are using the same ChatGPT account as during purchase. Restart the app and use a restore-purchases option if one is available before buying again.
Understand who manages the subscription
A subscription purchased inside the iOS app is normally billed and renewed by Apple. Payment-method changes, cancellation and Apple billing questions are handled through the Apple Account subscription system. A subscription purchased on the ChatGPT website follows a separate billing channel.
The App Store price can differ by region and can also differ from the web offer. Compare the exact plan and billing period rather than assuming every ChatGPT Plus checkout is equivalent.
