Identify the failure stage
A missing upgrade button is different from an Apple payment decline, and both are different from a completed charge that has not unlocked Plus. Record the exact message and check whether Apple produced a receipt before retrying.
- No upgrade option: check app version, account, plan availability and storefront.
- Purchase sheet fails: check the Apple Account payment method and billing status.
- Apple charged successfully: check the ChatGPT account and restore the purchase.
Check Apple Account billing first
App Store purchases use the payment methods supported for the Apple Account country or region. Confirm that the payment method is valid for that storefront, the billing details are accurate and there is enough available balance for the displayed amount and any applicable tax.
An unpaid Apple purchase or account-billing issue can block new transactions. Review the Apple purchase screen and Apple Account payment settings instead of repeatedly submitting the same purchase.
Do not change region as a first troubleshooting step
Changing an Apple Account country or region can require spending the remaining balance, ending subscriptions, completing pre-orders and providing an eligible payment method and billing address for the destination region. It can also change content availability.
Use real, eligible account information. A lower price in another storefront does not mean that switching regions is appropriate or that the payment method will be accepted.
If payment succeeded but Plus is missing
Confirm that ChatGPT is signed in to the same account used when the in-app purchase was made. Restart the app, sign out only if you know the correct login method, and use restore purchases if the app provides it.
Do not buy the plan a second time until you have checked Apple Subscriptions and the receipt. If Apple shows the subscription but ChatGPT does not recognize it, contact the appropriate support channel with the Apple receipt and the ChatGPT account details, without sharing passwords or full payment credentials.
