A symbol is not a unique currency identifier
The ¥ symbol can mean Japanese yen or Chinese yuan, while $ is used by many currencies. Symbols such as kr also cover several Nordic currencies. Reading the country and ISO code together prevents large conversion errors.
Some currencies use unusual separators
A period can separate thousands in one locale and decimals in another. For example, Rp 75.000 commonly means seventy-five thousand Indonesian rupiah, not seventy-five rupiah.
- JPY is Japanese yen and CNY is Chinese yuan.
- USD, CAD, AUD and SGD all commonly use a dollar sign.
- IDR is Indonesian rupiah.
- CLP and KRW are usually displayed without minor decimal units.
A price tool should preserve the source value
Keep the exact local amount and currency code beside any converted estimate. This makes formatting mistakes visible and lets users verify the value against the original App Store storefront.
